I used butter, but you can use olive oil too.

Hmmm, liquid crab boil. I’ve used it in gumbos, and boils but never even considered it in beans! Thanks. Approximately how much do you use?

I put it in both red and navy beans. I use about 2-2.5 capfuls.

The liquid crab boil doesn’t contain shellfish. It’s just a spicy liquid seasoning that you add to seafood or in this case beans.

I have an 8 quart and actually doubled the recipe.
